These alternatives are especially great for international contacts!

JAJAH uses the internet to make cheap calls from your phone, in fact its free to join and free to call other Jajah members.

The great part with Jajah is that it uses the internet to connect the call between 2 (or more) normal phone services.  No downloads, no program to install, you simply go to Jajah's website, enter your details - then enter the other person's details and Jajah dials your nominated phone number and connects you to the other phone number. 

Because it uses real phone services there are no delays, no echoes and if both are members, No Cost when calling.

Phone Cards are another cost effective way to communicate, we use Phone Card Selector to choose a phone card that best suits the regular type of calls we make.

 SKYPE enables you to make calls from your computer - free to other people on Skype and cheap to phones and mobiles around the world.  Skype also allows you to chat with other users. 

Although free to join and free to call other Skype users there are some limitations: you require a broadband internet connection, have to download & install the Skype program, you require speakers & microphone (or a headset with both), and because you communicate over the internet there can often be a slight delay or echo.

Time Zone Calculators are great when calling people in all parts of the world, to ensure that you are not calling at an inconvenient time.  We use the following:

• For regular contacts we have set up Qlock on our desktop.  A simple way to track different time zones, with a clock face for each person / time zone.  For more information or to download Qlock click here.
• With one off situations we use this Time & Date Converter to get the exact time in both locations, for scheduled calls.
